Good people are difficult to find and with official estimates suggesting that up to 25% of the population are affected by a print or vision impairment of some kind, the pool seems to be contracting even further. Just as we are hitting the information age, it seems that timing couldn't be worse for employers.
When dyslexic businessmen like Richard Branson and Walt Disney began in business the information age had not begun. The successes of blind musicians like Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder and politicians like David Blunkett, the former UK Education secretary, were built before digitisation. Their chances of success probably wouldn't be so good today, or would they?
Thankfully, the outlook for both employees with print and vision impairments and their employers has improved dramatically over the past 20 years. Disability acts around the world (such as the DDA in the UK and Section 508 in the USA) have encouraged employers to have more open policies toward people with disabilities, opening the doors for a highly creative talent pool.
International disability discrimination laws now require companies and Government departments to make reasonable provision for people with disabilities including people with vision and print impairments. Specific provision needs to be made for employees and customers.
Dolphin has developed a range of assistive technology solutions for businesses offering innovative and reliable tools that encourage integration and inclusion in the workplace. Employees with vision problems may need screen readers, magnification or Braille and for employees with Dyslexia and other learning difficulties we also have a range of reading and writing tools.
All Dolphin software solutions are supplied with free lifetime support and work seamlessly together even in network environments and with your internal applications (Pro versions of Dolphin software allow you to create your own map files to enable custom applications to work more efficiently).
