Quality and Design Placement Year Student

Position: Permanent.

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Dolphin is one of the leading suppliers of software to people with low vision and dyslexia, with a distribution channel in over forty countries and products available in over twenty languages

The Role

You will work within our busy Quality and Design department, in the Test Centre team and primarily you will contribute to testing of our products. However, Q&D has three teams: a test centre, a project office and a quality improvement team, and for the right candidate there are opportunities to become involved in specialist areas within the team which could be one of:

  • Programming - especially scripting of test automation and building test websites
  • Process design and implementation
  • Metrics design and control
  • Project control systems.

As well as you contributing to day to day work of the team, yopu will carry out a small project of your own to provide us with a significant improvement to our processes, tools or methods.



  • A working knowledge of Windows XP/Vista/7 and associated application software is essential
  • Ability to program for example in Javascript, HTML and scripting languages (such as - Python or Lua) is essential
  • Knowledge of test design techniques is desirable



  • It is essential to have taken some practical modules as part of the degree and able to programme, and to have had some experience in testing at least your own code
  • Experience with Systems analysis is desirable
