Smart Hal, a very happy ending
19th Apr, 2009
19th April 2009: Described as "a solid product" by AFB's AccessWorld and "very exciting" by Microsoft's Technical evangelist, Dan Hubbell. Smart Hal quickly established itself as a popular member of the Dolphin range of access products delivering independence to blind and visually impaired people on the move. As the first screen reader for devices running Windows Mobile 6 Standard, translated into over 11 languages, Smart Hal has received widespread recognition since its initial unveiling at the California State University Conference on Technology and Disability in March 2007.
Featuring seamless integration with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange server, Windows Mobile is the preferred choice of many businesses and individuals wishing to remain connected and productive while on the move. The advent of Dolphin screen reading software for Windows Mobile 5 & Windows Mobile 6 was timely and extremely well received by many.
The Smart Hal success story didn't go unnoticed by other established Assistive Technology companies, including international speech experts, Nuance Communications Inc. As well as developing the powerful multilingual Eloquence and RealSpeak TTS, Nuance develop the benchmark in mobile phone screen reading, Nuance Talks for Symbian Series 60 devices.
"Extending the range of supported devices has been a central goal for Talks since it's inception. In order to deliver solutions to a wider audience, Dolphin and Nuance recognized a mutual opportunity to collaborate on Talks for Windows Mobile." Torsten Brand, Mobile Applications Product Manager for Nuance Communications.
Dolphin Computer Access Group Chairman, Steve Palmer explains "Dolphin recognise an international and expert solution provider in our trusted partners, Nuance Communications. Nuance are extremely well respected for their expert service, support and for delivering cutting edge products, first.
