Description

How to set-up Your Email In Guide

Solution

When setting up your email in Guide, users who have version 6 or higher can use the email wizard.

The email wizard is a utility found under the email settings menu which will automatically fill in the missing settings once you have provided it with your email and password.

However if you have an older version of Guide or the wizard doesn’t work for your provider we have gathered a few common settings below. Please note however that these settings can be changed by the provider at any time and therefore these settings can sometimes be outdated. If the setting is out of date or is not listed you can usually find them on the provider’s website under POP and SMTP settings.

Please note that hotmail and standard yahoo accounts are not supported in Guide.

In the event that you have input your settings and it still doesn’t work there are a few problems that can cause this.

If guide displayed the following quote “no dial tone” this means that guide is set to use dial up broadband where your connection should be standard broadband.  If you go back to the menu and press 9,8,2,2 this will reset the connection to a permanent or corporate broadband connection.

If it displays the message “error with connecting server”, this can be caused by a few different things. The most common of which are invalid settings or security software/settings. The security options that can block emails can be few and far between, the highest likely hood is that if it is 7/vista it will have uac (user account controls) on as default. This would need to be disabled.  In terms of anti-virus software the majority do not support pop/smtp settings in guide, with the exceptions being AVG free edition and Microsoft security essentials.

If it is still displaying this error and the settings are correct and then it could be an issue with your internet connection. If you go back to the main menu and go 9,9,2 to internet radio player, if only 2 or lower stations are listed this will mean there is a problem with your internet connection.

We recommend you try rebooting your router and it still doesn’t work to contact your internet service provider.
