How To Disable UAC and Defender in Windows 7 and Vista for Guide

Solution

For Guide to work correctly we advise that the standard security software provided on Windows Vista and 7 be disabled. These features are known as User Account Controls (UAC) and Windows Defender.

How to disable User Account Controls in Windows 7

1.       In order to disable UAC you will first be required to open the Control Panel in Windows.

Windows Control Panel

2.       Within the Control Panel there is an option called User Accounts if you enter on this and there should be a second option called User Accounts, enter on this option as well.

3.       Now a window should appear with the heading “Make changes to your user account” and should have a list of options, the last option on this list is the one we want, it is “Change User Account Control Settings”.

4.       It will come up with a prompt box now asking if you would like to continue, choose the option yes.

5.       Once you have entered this it will bring you a new window with a sliding options bar. For this bar the higher it is the more secure it is, but by doing so will cause Guide to have problems. What we want is for the bar to be at its lowest point and therefore set to never notify.

UAC Control Settings

6.       Once this has been done if you click ok and it may pop up with a prompt. If you confirm it and restart you computer and user account controls will be turned off.

How to disable Windows Defender in Windows 7

1.       In order to disable Windows Defender you will first need to open the start menu, and in search field type in “defender”.

2.       This will pull up a list containing several options, one of these options will be “Windows Defender”, open this option.

3.       This will do one of two things, if a small box appears saying Windows Defender is turned off, then you can ignore the next set of steps. However more commonly it will come up with a new window with several options on, one of which should be an option for tools with an image of a cog next to it.

4.       If you choose this option will come up with 6 further choices one of which is “options”, enter this.

5.       Now it should have 7 options available, the last option should be administrator, if you click on this and it will display two options the first is a tick box with the caption “use this program”, un-tick this box and click save.

6.       You may now be asked to restart your computer for the changes to take effect, if asked restart your machine and when it turns on Windows defender will be disabled.
