Chapter 3: Scan and Read
13. Media
NOTE: Scan and Read includes a Scanner Wizard; we recommend you run the wizard when using a scanning device for the first time.
You can use the Scan and Read option in Media to convert printed material and image-based files into a format you can read on the computer.
Scan and read an image-based file
NOTE: You do not require a scanner or digital camera connected to the computer for this section.
To scan and read an image-based file from the SuperNova Control Panel:
- Press ALT + M and then RIGHT ARROW. The Media menu opens followed by the Scan and Read submenu.
- DOWN ARROW to From file and press ENTER. The Open dialog box opens. By default, the explorer window shows PDF documents present in the folder. If you want to change the type of files listed then you must change the file type option.
- SHIFT + TAB into the file list, use the Arrow Keys to select the file and then press ENTER. If the file is in a different folder, use BACKSPACE to go one level up and use ENTER to open folders until you select the file and then press ENTER.
- A dialog box opens giving you the chance to change the converted files name and, if possible, specify particular page ranges.
- If you wish to make changes to the default settings, TAB through and make the changes. When done, TAB to the OK button and press SPACEBAR.
- A message window opens showing the progress of the conversion. When the conversion is complete the file opens in the SuperNova Reader. NOTE: The SuperNova Reader is an HTML window.
- Use NUMPAD + to start reading the text.
- When you have finished reading the text, press ALT + F4 to close the window.
Scan and read printed material
NOTE: To scan print material requires a compatible scanning device connected to the computer.
Firstly, ensure the scanning device is correctly connected to the computer.
To scan and read printed material, starting from the SuperNova Control Panel:
- Press ALT + M and then RIGHT ARROW. The Media menu opens followed by the Scan and Read submenu.
- DOWN ARROW to From scanner and press ENTER. A dialog box opens giving you the chance to change the converted files name and, if possible, specify particular page ranges.
- If you wish to make changes to the default settings, TAB through and make the changes. When done, TAB to the OK button and press SPACEBAR.
- A message window opens showing the progress of the conversion. When the conversion is complete a second message window opens asking if you want to stop or continue scanning pages.
- If you want to scan more pages, add the new page to the scanner, TAB to the Add More Pages button and press SPACEBAR. Repeat this process until all pages are scanned and you are ready to read the text.
- When done, TAB to the Stop Loading Pages button and press SPACEBAR. The book opens in the SuperNova Reader. NOTE: The SuperNova Reader is an HTML window.
- Use NUMPAD + to start reading the text.
- When you have stopped or finished reading, press ALT + F4 to close the window.
