Microsoft Teams with SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader
Welcome to this tutorial. In this brief tutorial you will discover how to get around Microsoft Teams using the keyboard and learn the features available in SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader that can help you get the most from this app.
This tutorial is for you if you are using:
- SuperNova Magnifier & Screen Reader version 21.03 or later.
- Dolphin ScreenReader version 21.03 or later.
- Microsoft Teams version 1.5 or later.
If you prefer to use the mouse pointer or touch gestures to navigate windows, then this tutorial is probably not for you.
If you are running an earlier version of SuperNova or Dolphin ScreenReader, then the stated commands may not be available or function as documented. Please also be aware that Microsoft can distribute updates that may impact upon the performance of SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader with Teams. All efforts will be made to ensure this documentation is kept up to date.
Keyboard Commands
This tutorial frequently refers to keyboard commands. The keyboard commands in this tutorial refer to the UK English keyboard layout. Keys for other layouts may not correspond exactly to the documented keys.
Where keyboard commands are stated, a plus sign (+) means that you need to press multiple keys at the same time. For example, ALT + F means you must hold down the ALT key and while it is held down, press the F key before releasing both keys.
When a comma sign (,) appears in a keyboard command it means that you need to press the keys in sequence. For example, ALT, F means you tap the ALT key and then tap the F key.
It is important to have a basic understanding of your keyboard layout and how to use the keyboard to work and navigate in Windows to complete this tutorial. If this is unfamiliar to you then please consider spending time learning your keyboard layout before embarking on this tutorial.
Hotkey Sets
Throughout this tutorial you will find two different hotkeys stated. The referenced hotkeys come from the two most popular hotkey sets used with SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader.
These are:
- The Desktop Default NumPad Set, which is based upon a standard Windows plugin keyboard, makes use of both the numeric keypad and the main keyboard for its hotkey assignments.
- The Laptop Universal Set, which is based upon a standard inbuilt laptop keyboard layout that does not include a numeric keypad, makes use of only the main keyboard layout for its hotkey assignments.
If you find instructions stating only one hotkey, then this means the keyboard assignment is the same in both hotkey sets
If you are unsure of the hotkey set you are using, then you can review your assignment in the SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader "Keyboard" dialog box.
To do this:
- Open the SuperNova or Dolphin ScreenReader Control Panel by pressing LEFT CONTROL + SPACEBAR.
- Open the "General" menu, "Keyboard Settings" submenu and select "Keyboard" (Alt, G, K, K).
