Hello, and welcome to the Dolphin Easy Converter video tutorials. In this tutorial I am going to be taking a look at heading styles in Microsoft word and how they can help you create an effective alternative format. So first of all I am going to create a DAISY book out of a Microsoft word document without using any heading styles. So I am simply going to select quick conversion. There’s my document there. And DAISY. OK that’s done, so let’s take a look at our Daisy book within Dolphin Easy Reader. It all looks fine. It is nicely laid out and we can navigate line by line, however I can’t quickly skip to any of these headings.

So let’s take a look at what some heading styles can do for our DAISY book. This time I’m going to choose new project and there’s my document there, so that’s fine. And I’m also going to select yes under decide if you want to edit your document in Microsoft word before converting because this is where I am going to put my heading styles in.

OK, so here’s our document. You can only tell these are headings because they are in bold. What I want to do is put some heading styles in place. Now before I start I can actually choose what my heading styles are going to be like. So all I do is hover my mouse over the heading style I would like to edit, right click and choose modify. And here I can choose what my heading styles are going to look like. So here we have Ariel and size 16. I would actually like it to be a bit bigger, so I am going to choose size 20.  Heading 2 I would like to be a bit clearer. Once again right click, choose modify and I am going to make this size 16. So its really simple to put some heading styles in place. All I have to do is highlight the text I want to become a heading and then simply select which heading style I want. Here I will select heading style one, because it is the main heading of the whole document. These headings are a little smaller and not quite as important as the main topic, so here I am going to use heading style two. And to show you the difference I’m also going to use heading style three. I don’t recommend using more than two or three heading styles, because things get a little complicated. OK so there we go. I have my heading style 1, 2 and 3. Lest see how it turns out. So our DAISY book looks pretty much the same. These headings are slightly a different size. But now I can see on the left hand side I have got several headings listed in this box. This allows me to quickly navigate to these headings, so if I select research, research is selected. If I select study tips, study tips is selected. So this allows me to quickly navigate around my document. You can imagine if you have a large document over 10 or 20 pages then this would be a really handy way of quickly navigating around. So that’s how to apply heading styles and the importance of them when applying alternative formats. Thank you.
