Dolphin Holds Work Experience for 24 Vision Impaired Students
Published:
The team at Dolphin have recently had the pleasure of working for a second time with Blind in Business - to hold work experience for young people with vision impairments.
The first time we ran this virtual work experience was in October 2024, when we ran work experience for ten young people from around the country. It was so successful that this February we extended our offering to 14 young people!
This work experience is held virtually via Microsoft Teams as the students go to different colleges around the country. This has the benefit that we are able to cover a much wider area and offer the experience to more than only our local college or school.
We can’t recommend Blind in Business highly enough. The students are bright and engaging, they are well-prepped and the work they produce is excellent.
Work Experience at Dolphin
At Dolphin, we like to give our work experience students experience in different areas of the business. They spent with our Support, Marketing and Product Testing departments.
Whether this is in-person at our Head office in Worcester, or virtually via Microsoft Teams, on the first day, the students meet with members of the Dolphin team. We introduce ourselves and the departments we work in, and the students introduce themselves and tell us about their college and the things they study.
In the virtual work experience, we break down into smaller groups of three or four students to one Dolphin team member. We run through some interview questions the students may get if they have an interview, listen to their answers and provide some positive feedback. In person, the students will have a tour of the offices.
Each day they will then meet with the department lead who will run all the sessions and set the work for that day. The department lead sets two to four tasks for the day and we generally have a morning session where we set a task, a progress chat before lunch where we will also set a second task for the afternoon, and a final catch up and reflection session at the end of the day.
The students are encouraged to talk to us directly, or message us with any questions, and to bring these as topics for discussion in the afternoon catch up session.
As part of their experience with the marketing department, students are each asked to write a blog about their experiences. Titles for this are suggested, and they are also welcome to decide their own.
The standard of work produced is excellent, and we are delighted to be able to publish a selection of these blogs. You can read these at the Dolphin Blog:
